Our Story

Empress Brasil was founded in 2010 by Catherine Maaskant and is known for the eclectic mix of modern cuts, exquisite details and Brazilian bossa. The pieces convey Catherine's personality: striking, strong and with an independent essence. The collections include exclusive prints, mixing metals with knits and fine fabrics. The models are perfected to value the best in each woman. The label has marked a strong presence in the Brazilian swimwear market but has also spread its wings abroad. The part Dutch part Brazilian designer now based in New York still curates the collections and designs all prints and styles. Our production process is artisan and we take pride in every garment, that is true evidence of great craftmanship. We try to enforce sustainability through fair-trade policies with our seamstresses and usage of sustainable materials in our product and packaging.

Our designs set themselves apart in a design that brings together Brazilian style beachwear and international avantgarde trends in fashion.

Empress Brasil's collections are always launched for the Brazilian summer. Inspired by world trends in beachwear, the brand is still “bossa”.
