Catherine Maaskant - the Designer

Catherine Maaskant as a founder and the main designer is the heart of Empress Brasil. in In 2010 she founded the Brazilian brand that today has grown to be international. Catherine is the daughter of a Brazilian mother and a Dutch father and has lived most of her life in the Netherlands. There she graduated in aerospace engineering, but decided to follow her dream of being an entrepreneur in the fashion industry. That's how Empress Brasil was born.

“When I started I had no experience in the area of beach fashion, but I am a person who learns fast and I am a hard worker. I designed the first collection and as soon as it was launched it was a success! It ended up appearing in several magazines and so we expanded quickly. Today I design all the prints. I love staying in my studio in São Paulo and creating - drawings, new styles, etc. It seems that in the midst of fabrics and hardware, inspiration explodes! ”

Today Catherine lives in New York and travels a lot between the USA and Brazil to take care of the company. “I get a lot of inspiration from NY. The city doesn't stop and people are focused on success. I identify a lot with that work mentality! In addition, NY is a fashion capital of the world. I always go to fashion events and do in-depth research to make my creations. ” Catherine's eclectic life, along with her travels around the world, means that Empress Brasil's collections have a modern and differentiated identity filled with the trends of the moment. However, even with all this, the prints continue with a lot of “bossa” and the looks and cuts with a Brazilian vibe.
